I spent three weeks trying to kayak (and walk) down the “most endangered” river in America, California’s San Joaquin; I quickly learned why no one does that.
Up and Down the River. A great game for at least 3 people, with a potentially very high buzz factor. You’ll need a deck of cards for 6 people, and an additional deck for every additional 8- 1. How to Play. Each player is dealt 4 cards face up, which are kept in front of that player. Once all players have received their hand, the game begins. The dealer will flip one card at a time off the top of the remaining deck, face up. The players whose hands have a matching card (numerically, not by suit) must take 1 drink.
If they have more than one of the same card, it is a drink for each card. The dealer then turns over the next card, and the same rules apply, except that players must take 2 drinks. The next deal is 3 drinks, and the last is 4 drinks. After the 4th card, the dealer returns ‘down the river’ by dealing the next card on top of the 4th card dealt. Players with matching cards now GIVE 4 drinks away in any combination; this may be 1 drink to 4 different players, 4 drinks to 1 player, or any other combination. The same rule applies when the player has more than one of the same card; the player gives drinks for each card.
The dealer then continues back ‘down the river’ by dealing the 6th card on top of the 3rd card dealt. This time players give 3 drinks for each matching card.
